Hogs to hold scrimmage in Vilonia

Arkansas forward Trey Thompson runs a drill as guard Anthlon Bell follows on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

— The Razorbacks' basketball team will hold an open scrimmage in the central Arkansas city of Vilonia next Sunday, Nov. 2.

The scrimmage will begin at 2:45 p.m. at Vilonia High School. The scrimmage is free but attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to help with relief efforts for the city, which was damaged by a tornado in April.

“The state of Arkansas is one big community," Arkansas coach Mike Anderson said in a release announcing the scrimmage. "People care for one another in a way that’s indescribable. Whatever we can do to assist with the recovery efforts from last April’s storms, we’ll do it. We want this to be a day where people show up and put a smile on their face."

Arkansas' team traveled to Vilonia and Mayflower, another city damaged by the tornado, in June to help with clean-up efforts. Anderson attended a benefit baseball game between the two cities' high school teams in North Little Rock the week following the tornado.

Vilonia's gym seats 1,600 people with additional standing room available, according to a release.
