What national, Arkansas and Texas media are saying

The Associated Press J-WILL FINDS WAY: Jonathan Williams, playing in his home state, scores one of his four touchdowns Saturday in Arkansas’ 49-28 road win over Texas Tech. Alex Collins carried for 212 yards and a touchdown and Williams added 145 yards on the ground as the Razorbacks kept the ball 40 minutes, 39 seconds. The Razorbacks take a 2-1 record into Saturday’s 6 p.m. game against Northern Illinois at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

Danny Kanell, ABC Sports Postgame Show

He (Bret Bielema) made a big stink about, 'Hey, let's slow teams down,' complain about the rules. I'd rather see him go out and make a statement with a win like this. This is how you beat those up-tempo teams that go so fast; keep the ball out of their hands and control the line of scrimmage.

Mack Brown, ABC Sports Postgame Show

They played defense with their offense and wouldn't let Tech get off the field, and that's how Arkansas wins. Huge win for them in the state of Texas because they recruit so much (there).

Ed Cunningham, ABC Sports In-Game

This looks like Arkansas is going to be back very quickly. Not sure if it's this year, but it's going to be soon.

Travis Haney, ESPN.com

I watched as Arkansas, the West’s “worst” team -- the one with that sole loss -- go for 438 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground Saturday at Texas Tech. Arkansas had 14 rushing scores in all of 2013. With improving depth like that, who in the world would blame Texas A&M for going light in the nonconference schedule?

Harry King, Arkansas News Bureau

To have any hope of winning the six games necessary to qualify for a bowl game, Arkansas had to win in Lubbock. Mission accomplished, but all seven of the SEC teams remaining on Arkansas’ schedule are better than the Red Raiders.

Wally Hall, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Saturday, against a small but scrappy Texas Tech team, Arkansas claimed enough west Texas yardage to build a nice-sized apartment complex, a convenience store with 12 gas pumps and a library.

George Schroeder, USA Today Sports Reporter via Twitter

Been saying Arkansas was much better than '13 but record might not show it. Winning at Texas Tech is a step to having the record show it.

Kurt Voigt, AP Sports Reporter via Twitter

And while Bret Bielema didn't want to go there this week, today is a "we're back" kind of game for Arkansas. Not SEC back, but relevant.

Chris Low, ESPN SEC Reporter via Twitter

Only thing Arkansas' bruising win does for me is reinforce what an absolute beast of a division the SEC West is.

David Ubben, ESPN Big 12 Reporter via Twitter

Alex Collins is outstanding. The hopstep + stiffarm combo was pretty nasty.

Greg Ostendorf, ESPN.com

Bret Bielema has never deviated from the plan. He’s not spreading it out. He’s not changing to a hurry-up offense. He’s old school. He wants to run the ball, dominate up front and ultimately wear down the opposing defense.

Don Williams, Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

It got this way — the Razorbacks bulldozing five drives of 11 to 15 plays — because of Tech’s inability to sign and develop high school defensive linemen and linebackers. The Red Raiders aren’t alone in that. Top-notch defensive linemen — what separates contenders from pretty good teams — are as scarce as water in West Texas, not nearly enough to go around.
