Dallas Keuchel notched his fifth straight quality start to start the season Wednesday afternoon.
The former Arkansas pitcher gave up only one earned run on three hits in eight innings of work in the Houston Astros' 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres. He retired 23 of the last 24 batters he faced.
Coming off a no decision in which he allowed two hits in nine scoreless innings, Keuchel earned a win Wednesday, improving him to 3-0 on the season.
The outing also lowered his ERA to 0.73 for 2015. That is the second-lowest in the majors, behind Texas Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez (0.35).
Keuchel also struck out four batters, while walking none.
Because it was an interleague game played in San Diego, Keuchel also had to bat. He struck out in his first two at bats before collecting a single.
It was his third career hit. His first two came in 2012, when the Astros were still in the National League.
Forsythe Collects Two Hits vs. Yankees
Logan Forsythe has played some of his best baseball against the New York Yankees this year.
The former Arkansas infielder went 2-for-6 with a double and a run scored in the Tampa Bay Rays' 3-2 13-inning win over the Yankees.
It was Forsythe's second straight two-hit game against the Yankees, as he went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in the Rays' 4-2 loss Tuesday.
His only three-hit game of the season was also against the Yankees, when he went 3-for-4 with a home run on April 17.
Smyly Strikes Out 10
Making his second start of the season, Drew Smyly turned in a quality start for the Tampa Bay Rays.
In their 3-2 13-inning win over the Yankees, the former Arkansas pitcher gave up two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out 10 in six innings of work.
Half of the hits Smyly gave up were home runs, which accounted for both of the earned runs he allowed.
In his two starts combined, Smyly has allowed four earned runs in 10 2/3 innings, giving him a 3.38 ERA. He also has 15 strikeouts to only one walk.
