AJ Derby was waived by the New England Patriots Tuesday.

The former Arkansas quarterback-turned-tight end was selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft.

He participated in the first day of training camp Thursday, but was injured during the practice and hasn't been seen since. He'll be placed on the Patriots' injured reserve if he clears waivers.

Derby converted to tight end before his senior season with the Razorbacks and caught 22 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns before a knee injury sidelined him for the final two games.

He started his career at Iowa, but transferred to Coffeyville Community College after one year. He came to Arkansas as a walk-on quarterback after one season with the Red Ravens.

In his only season under center with the Razorbacks, Derby appeared in seven games and completed 19 of 36 passes for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He started once: the Rutgers game in place of injured Brandon Allen.
