Allen sharper in second scrimmage

— Brandon Allen rebounded from a sluggish first scrimmage with a better one Saturday at Razorback Stadium.

Allen completed 17 of 22 passes for 245 yards and 4 touchdowns, and was intercepted twice while playing against the Razorbacks' second-team defense. Statistics reflect plays during the portion of the scrimmage where tackling was allowed.

Allen hit several targets on long passing plays, recording seven completions of at least 17 yards. He threw three touchdowns during red zone work and capped a long scoring drive with a touchdown pass on third-and-goal.

He completed his first four passes of the scrimmage before throwing interceptions on two consecutive plays. The first was a screen pass that went off the back of tackle Dan Skipper and was returned 35 yards for a touchdown by defensive end Jeremiah Ledbetter.

Allen's second interception came on a pass bobbled by receiver Keon Hatcher and caught by safety Santos Ramirez.

Allen threw touchdown passes of 18, 18 and 17 yards to Hatcher, Jeremy Sprinkle and Hunter Henry in red zone work.

He also had a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jared Cornelius to cap a 9-play possession. Allen was 6-for-8 for 69 yards on the scoring drive.

Allen had completed 10 of 23 passes and was intercepted while playing against the first-team defense during the first scrimmage of the preseason last Saturday.

Hatcher had six receptions for 110 yards during this week's scrimmage. Drew Morgan had six receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Arkansas held running back Alex Collins out of the scrimmage. Kody Walker led all rushers with 71 yards on 10 carries, while Rawleigh Williams added 45 yards on six carries.

Walker scored on a 4-yard run during red zone work and Williams scored a 20-yard rushing touchdown. Allen also had a rushing touchdown of 2 yards and scrambled 36 yards on another play.

Austin Allen completed 10 of 17 passes for 186 yards, 1 touchdown and an interception while working with the second-team offense against the first-team defense. He nearly had another long completion, but Dominique Reed dropped a perfectly thrown ball near the sideline.

Allen threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Morgan during red zone work. He was intercepted by Kevin Richardson, who returned it 15 yards.

Rafe Peavey completed 4 of 6 passes for 40 yards with the second offense.

Brooks Ellis led the first-team defense with six tackles, including two for loss. Ledbetter forced a fumble in addition to his interception. JaMichael Winston beat left tackle Denver Kirkland on an inside move to record a sack.

Cole Hedlund led Arkansas' kickers by making field goals from 33 and 32 yards. Lane Saling and Adam McFain made kicks from 32 and 29 yards, respectively.

Walker, center Mitch Smothers and safety Rohan Gaines were injured during the scrimmage but returned. Fullback Tyler Colquitt left with a high ankle sprain.

Defensive ends Deatrich Wise (shoulder) and Brandon Lewis (knee) did not practice.
