Despite a change of scenery, Darren McFadden is battling the same problem he has his entire NFL career.

The former Arkansas running back will start training camp with the Dallas Cowboys on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list because of a hamstring injury.

The Cowboys don't believe the injury is serious and hope he can return to the active roster during camp.

However, this is nothing new for McFadden, as he failed to stay healthy during his seven-year tenure with the Oakland Raiders.

He had 15 injuries that caused him to miss 29 games during his first six years in Oakland, according to The Dallas Morning News. Last season was the first time he played an entire 16-game schedule.

Those injuries have prevented him from fulfilling his potential after the Raiders took him fourth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.

His best season came in 2010, when he rushed for 1,157 yards and seven touchdowns on 223 carries in 13 games.

In seven years with the Raiders, he ran for 4,247 yards and 25 touchdowns, while averaging 4.1 yards per carry. He also had five touchdown receptions and one touchdown pass.

This offseason, McFadden signed a two-year, $3 million contract with Dallas that includes incentives tied to his health.

He is expected to help the Cowboys replace NFL rushing champion DeMarco Murray, who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after rushing for a franchise-record 1,845 yards in 2014.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the Associated Press Wednesday that he thought McFadden and Joseph Randle could perform well behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

"To some degree, that's the kind of back — if you add those two together — that we had in Murray," Jerry Jones said. "McFadden is an experienced back. Randle is not as experienced, but he's got a chance to get in and use some, I think, very instinctive, natural running back qualities to have the position give us everything it can give us."

Lance Dunbar (an undrafted three-year veteran), Lache Seastrunk (a sixth-round pick by Washington in the 2014 draft) and Gus Johnson (an undrafted rookie from Stephen F. Austin) are the other running backs on Dallas' roster.

If McFadden is still on the PUP list when the regular season starts, he'll have to sit out the first six games of the year.
