The Recruiting Guy

Florida linebacker likes Hargreaves' recruiting style

LB Donavan Thompson enjoyed his trip to Arkansas.

Linebacker Donavan Thompson, an Arkansas target, expects to be in Fayetteville in a few weeks for an unofficial visit.

“Our coaches are working on it,” Thompson said. “We should be up there around June.”

Thompson, 5-10, 215, 4.69 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Miami, (Fla.) Central said his relationship with linebackers coach Vernon Hargreaves is key for his interest along with the fact that his linebackers coach Sabbath Joseph played for Hargreaves.

“Coach Hargreaves is mainly just keeping it real with me and not just telling me what I want to hear,” said Thompson, who believes he could commit to the Hogs with a good visit. “And besides, he coached my linebacker coach back at South Florida.”

His teammate and defensive end Keir Thomas, a Florida State commitment, also plans to visit the Hogs in June. Thompson has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Oregon State, South Florida and Massachusetts while also drawing strong interest from Wisconsin, Central Florida and Miami. Video highlights CLICK HERE

Thompson, who recorded 161 tackles, 16 sacks 2 forced fumbles and 2 forced fumbles as a junior, said coaches like what he brings to the field.

“How fast I can get to the ball,” he said. “My hitting power and being able to be around the ball and make plays.”

He said Hargreaves helped get him get noticed by the other coaches on the Razorback staff.

“He’s introduced me to all of the coaches and have them send me mail and showed everybody my film and has everybody loving me,” Thompson said.
