Arkansas Hawks' Perry back in the Rock

Forward Reggie Perry.

Arkansas Hawks forward Reggie Perry made his way back to Little Rock for the Real Deal in the Rock tournament over the weekend.

He lived in the capital city until moving to Florida about three years ago.

Perry, 6-9, 225 of of Tallahassee, (Fla.) Maclay Prep has seen his stock rise over the last year and now has 8 scholarship offers from Arkansas, Florida State, Florida, Mississippi State, Virginia and others.

He claims no favorite.

“They’re all the same right now,” Perry said. “Florida State being my hometown and if I decided to play home then that would probably be my first choice.”

His father, Al played point guard for Mississippi State from 1974 to 1978 and led the SEC in assists in 1975 and 1976.

“He’s talked to me a lot, giving me tips and telling me to always play at a high speed,” Perry said. “Never play down to your competition, always play up.”

Perry, who helped the Hawks to the Real Deal in the Rock 16-under championship, was hobbled by a knee injury in last year’s Real Deal and summer basketball.

“I’m 100 percent, no excuses,” Perry said.

He only visited Arkansas and Florida State in the past year

“I really like them I’ve liked them since I was little,” said Perry of Arkansas. “I’m still fond of them.”

The knee injury was a setback, but Perry has been working hard to improve.

“Since I was hurt last year, I’ve been working on my foot speed and getting quicker ,” Perry said. “It will help me in the end, not just recovering, but getting better.”

This past weekend was the first time Perry was able to play with 2019 Arkansas point guard commitment Justice Hill.

“He’s pretty good, he’s got a big future,” Perry said. “I didn’t realize he was that good, but he impressed me.”
