— Arkansas women's basketball assistant coach Christy Smith was introduced as the head coach at Incarnate Word on Wednesday.

Smith, a former all-American at Arkansas, had been on the Razorbacks' staff for two years, serving as Jimmy Dykes' top assistant. At Incarnate Word, she takes over a program that is entering its final year of transition to NCAA Division I.

Incarnate Word, a member of the Southland Conference, is located in San Antonio. The program has won only seven games in its first three years in the league.

Smith came to Arkansas after three years as an assistant at Purdue and three years as the recruiting coordinator at Valparaiso. She also coached high school basketball in Indiana and Texas.

As a player, Smith was a four-year letter winner at Arkansas and was the starting point guard for the Razorbacks' only Final Four team in 1998. She later played in the WNBA for the Charlotte Sting.
