OL mixing, matching continues

NWA Democrat-Gazette/MICHAEL WOODS • @NWAMICHAELW University of Arkansas linemen Dan Skipper (70) Frank Ranow (72) Deion Malone (73) and Colton Jackson (74) run drills during practice Thursday, April 21, 2016 in Fayetteville.

— Hjalte Froholdt has been playing on the offensive line shorter than any of his Arkansas peers.

But the 6-foot-4, 318-pound sophomore left guard is the only starting lineman who has both drilled at one position and worked with the first-team offense each day of fall camp so far.

Tuesday produced the most moving parts on the offensive line in sessions viewed by the media over the course of the past week. Senior Dan Skipper moved from right tackle to left, bumping redshirt freshman Colton Jackson to second-team left tackle and paving the way for sophomore Brian Wallace to work with the first team at right tackle.

Froholdt remained entrenched at left guard, while junior Frank Ragnow, who has worked with the ones at center and right guard, lined up next to him at center Tuesday. Sophomore Zach Rogers ran with the starters at right guard after also repping at center in previous practices.

“We just show up every day and it’s a new front and you’ve just got to handle adversity and deal with it,” Ragnow said. “It’s fun seeing guys step up, see new positions. It’s been good.”

Jackson was a mainstay at left tackle during the spring and into fall camp before Skipper slid over Tuesday. Previously, right guard had been the source of much of the moving parts, with Ragnow, Rogers, redshirt freshman Jalen Merrick and Texas transfer Jake Raulerson all working with the first-team offense at one point or another.

Despite the uncertainty with only two returning starters, ESPN ranked Arkansas’ offensive line No. 14 in the nation in a list released earlier Tuesday.
