UA women get another late victory in Walton

Arkansas guard Jordan Danberry goes up for a shot during a game against Mississippi State on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE -- There's no place like home for the Arkansas women's basketball team.

Jordan Danberry hit a jumper in the middle of the lane with seven seconds left to claim a 69-67 victory over Alabama on Thursday night in Walton Arena.

It's the second consecutive last-second win at home for the Razorbacks (11-15, 6-7 SEC) and pushed Arkansas' home record to 10-4.

Alabama's Meoshonti Knight tied the game at 67 with a three-pointer from the corner with 17 seconds left, but the 5-foot-8 freshman took the ball hard to the middle of the lane and drained the jumper for what turned out to be the game winner.

The Crimson Tide (14-12, 3-10 SEC) got an off-balance jumper and a pair of hurried follows to tie but misfired on all of them.

Arkansas Coach Jimmy Dykes was pleased with how his team fought back from a tough third quarter to finish strong. Danberry, who finished with 12 points and 10 assists, was huge, Dykes said.

"Very proud of our young ladies for how they hung in there and fought through adversity," Dykes said. "The fact that Jordan Danberry, a freshman, in back-to-back games with the game on the line has the courage and confidence to bring that ball down and make a play" was impressive.

Dykes was referring to Danberry's shot late in the game against Vanderbilt. Her shot from a similar spot on the floor missed, but teammate Malica Monk got the follow at the buzzer for the victory.

"That's exactly what we work on and exactly what we talk about in late-game situations like that," Dykes said. "We're going to bring that thing and make a play, and don't let that defense get set, and it paid off for us tonight."

Danberry said she felt a little less pressure.

"Going back to the Vanderbilt game, I felt like taking that shot it was pressure, and since I've already taken that shot, this shot was more comfortable for me," she said.

Danberry's 10 assists were the most by an Arkansas player since Calli Berna had 12 in 2014.

Junior Jessica Jackson led Arkansas with 20 points, while Alecia Cooley chipped in 11 -- nine in the second half. Sophomore Hannah Cook led all scorers with 24 points for Alabama, including four 3-pointers, while Quanetria Bolton added 19 off the bench.

Alabama Coach Kristy Curry said her team has suffered through similar situations in dropping to 0-9 on the road.

"I think that says something about our kids, eight of 11 freshmen and sophomores and continuing to play close," Curry said.

Arkansas started the fourth quarter with a 13-2 run to take a 61-53 lead, but Alabama clawed back as Bolton converted a three-point play and Knight hit a three-pointer from the corner in the final 90 seconds to tie the game at 67.
