Montana State was third in the FCS with an average of 519.8 yards and 41.9 points per game last season, but Ash was fired after posting a 5-6 record.

“We are very excited to add another quality coach with head coaching experience to our program,” Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said. “Rob will work with our staff in advanced preparation and also various projects with me. His background and experience within college football align him well with our program.”

Prior to Montana State, Ash was the head coach for 18 seasons at Drake, where he won 125 games and four conference championships. He has 36 years of head coaching experience.

Ash played college football for Cornell College in Iowa, where he was a quarterback. According to his bio, he has graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and University of Iowa.

An Arkansas spokesperson said Ash was not available for comment Thursday.
