Thompson hoping to repeat success of current Hog

England's B.J. Thompson (1) looks back for a pass.

England defensive end-tight end B.J. Thompson has heard the comparisons to Arkansas tight end Jeremy Sprinkle.

Both stand 6-foot 6-inches, and played multiple positions in high school. Sprinkle has added about 50 pounds to his frame since inking with the Hogs from White Hall.

Thompson, who weighs 200 pounds, has 10 scholarship offers, including Washington State, Kansas, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, Memphis and Tulane.

He took part in Arkansas’ prospect camp last Saturday in hopes of earning an offer. Several Razorbacks, including Sprinkle worked the camp. Thompson said he believes his potential is similar to the Razorback tight end.

“Jeremy and I were talking about that,” Thompson said. “He came in at 205 and I’m close to 200 right now.”

Thompson, who's the younger brother of Arkansas State tight end Blake Mack, recorded 52 receptions for 830 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. He also attended an Ole Miss camp.

“It was a great experience,” said Thompson of the Hog camp. “It’s the best camp I’ve been to so far I had a lot of fun I know lot of these guys. I went out and worked hard and had a lot of fun.”

He worked out at defensive end and heard positive feedback from defensive line coach Rory Segrest.

“He said I did well and that he and Coach (Barry) Lunney (Jr.) will be in touch and they want to get me back down here some time soon,” Thompson said.
