Rawleigh keeps RB streak going

Arkansas running back Rawleigh Williams carries the ball during a game against LSU on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Rawleigh Williams became the latest Arkansas player to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a season.

Williams went over the 1,000-yard mark with a 4-yard run in the third quarter against LSU on Saturday night at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

Bielema has had at least one player go for more than 1,000 rushing yards in all 11 of his seasons as a head coach, including seven at Wisconsin before coming to Arkansas.

It's the fourth consecutive season Arkansas has had a player rush for more than 1,000 yards and the 17th season since 1972.

Dickey Morton became the Razorbacks' first rusher with more than 1,000 yards in a season in 1972 when he gained 1,118.

In the interim

Having an interim coach in the Arkansas-LSU game isn't unusual.

Ed Orgeron, the former Arkansas graduate assistant who took over as LSU's interim coach Sept. 25 after Les Miles was fired, is the fourth interim coach in the game since the Razorbacks joined the SEC for the 1992 season.

Joe Kines served as Arkansas' interim coach for the final 10 games in 1992 when Jack Crowe was fired after the Razorbacks opened the season with a 10-3 loss to The Citadel. The Razorbacks were 3-6-1 under Kines, but he enjoyed a 30-6 victory over LSU in his final game as interim coach before being retained as defensive coordinator under Danny Ford.

Hal Hunter was LSU's interim coach for one game in 1999 -- against Arkansas -- after Gerry DiNardo's firing. Hunter led the Tigers to a 35-10 victory over the Razorbacks for a 3-8 finish to LSU's season.

John L. Smith was Arkansas' interim coach in 2012 after Bobby Petrino's firing the previous spring for off-the-field issues. Smith's last game was a 20-13 loss to LSU as the Razorbacks finished 4-8.

Good start

After being shut out by Alabama 10-0 last week, LSU drove 75 yards in 9 plays for a touchdown on its first possession against Arkansas. It was the first time the Tigers had scored on their first possessions this season.

In LSU's first eight games, the Tigers gained 32 yards on 25 snaps with just one first down. Their longest drive had been four plays against Missouri on Oct. 1 in a 42-7 victory.

The touchdown gave LSU its first lead over Arkansas since 2013.

Sack for Harris

Arkansas freshman linebacker De'Jon Harris got his first career sack when he dropped Danny Etling for a 6-yard loss in the third quarter.

More than half

Saturday night marked Bret Bielema's 48th game as Arkansas coach and the 25th against a team ranked in The Associated Press top 25. It was the Razorbacks' seventh ranked opponent in 10 games and fifth in a row.

Before playing AP No. 19 LSU, the Razorbacks played No. 1 Alabama, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 21 Auburn and No. 10 Florida.

According to ESPN, Arkansas became the first team to play five ranked opponents in a row since Tennessee in 2013. The Vols played No. 6 Georgia, No. 11 South Carolina, No. 1 Alabama, No. 10 Missouri and No. 9 Auburn consecutively, going 1-4 with a victory over the Gamecocks.

Arkansas beat Ole Miss and Florida.

Upon further review

Arkansas gained possession at the LSU 28 after a replay review overturned the call on the field.

Randy Ramsey forced a fumble by Tigers tailback Leonard Fournette, which was recovered by Dwayne Eugene. The call on the field was that Fournette was on the ground prior to the fumble, but replays showed the ball was coming out before he was down.

Arkansas had to settle for an Adam McFain field goal after the fumble.

Miss America in the house

Miss America Savvy Shields, an Arkansas student from Fayetteville, was recognized before the game and led the crowd in calling the Hogs along with UA Athletic Director Jeff Long.

D-Mac at game, too

Former Arkansas All-American Darren McFadden, who won the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back in 2006 and 2007, was introduced after the first quarter and led the crowd in a hog call.

Mascot love

The trailer for Tusk, Arkansas' live wild hog mascot, had a sign that read: "In Loving Memory of Mike VI. 2005-16." Mike VI, LSU's tiger mascot, died in October from cancer. He was 11.

LSU's first tiger mascot was purchased from the Little Rock Zoo in 1936 for $750. Mike I lived to be 20 years old.

Flag bearers

Arkansas junior wide receiver Jared Cornelius carried the United States flag and freshman receiver D'Vone McClure carried the Arkansas flag when the Razorbacks ran onto the field.

All red

After wearing anthracite uniforms and helmets last week against Florida, the Razorbacks wore all red uniforms and helmets Saturday night.

Arkansas also wore all red the previous two seasons when the Razorbacks beat LSU.

Etling picked LSU over Hogs

LSU quarterback Danny Etling considered transferring to Arkansas when he got a scholarship release from Purdue after the 2014 season.

Etling narrowed his choices to Arkansas and LSU before picking the Tigers in the summer of 2015.

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema also recruited Etling -- who is from Terre Haute, Ind. -- when he was Wisconsin's coach.

Moving around

Arkansas and LSU have met 62 times in six different cities, most frequently Shreveport. LSU came into Saturday night's game with a 37-22-1 lead, including 16-9 in Shreveport.

The teams also have played in Little Rock, Fayetteville, Baton Rouge, Dallas and Memphis.

Saturday night was the fourth time the Razorbacks and Tigers played in Fayetteville.

This season marks the 40th anniversary of one of Arkansas' most painful losses, when the Tigers beat the No. 2 Razorbacks 14-7 in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1, 1966, to end their 22-game winning streak.

Call the cable guy

Replay officials took several minutes with 1:14 left in the second quarter watching video to see whether an LSU punt downed at the Arkansas 1 had hit the TV camera cable wire.

Officials determined the ball didn't hit the cable. Arkansas then gained 13 yards in five plays to run out the clock.
