Softball receives highest ranking in program history

Arkansas coach Courtney Deifel makes notes Friday, March 30, 2018, during a game against Mississippi State at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas' softball team received its highest ranking in program history on Tuesday.

The Razorbacks (33-9, 8-7 SEC) jumped three spots to No. 16 in the latest USA Today/NFCA top 25 poll following a series win over No. 15 Alabama - a program first - last weekend at Bogle Park.

Arkansas now has seven wins over ranked opponents this season, and its 33 wins are the most since a 36-win 2013 campaign.

Freshman pitcher Mary Haff recorded her 19th and 20th wins of the season on Saturday and in the series finale on Sunday, improving to 20-3. Haff is the first SEC pitcher to reach 20 wins this season and the first Razorbacks pitcher to do so since Heather Schlichtman won 26 games in 2001.

Haff was also named SEC Freshman of the Week for a third time on Tuesday, sharing the award with Mississippi State's Mia Davidson, who hit .727 in four games last week.

Haff began the week by setting a career-high with 13 strikeouts in a one-hit, complete-game shutout of Saint Louis. In Game 2 against Alabama, Haff recorded another complete-game shutout and struck out nine, marking a career-high in league play. Sunday, Haff tallied her third complete game of the week in a 6-3 win over the Crimson Tide.

Haff totaled 26 strikeouts in 21 innings and walked only three last week. She will carry a 1.07 ERA into Auburn this weekend against the No. 11 Tigers.
