Wilkins' top two includes Arkansas, Oklahoma

Stacey Wilkins

— While Arkansas is one of Camden Fairview offensive lineman Stacey Wilkins’ top two schools, the influx of new programs may slow down his initial decision to commit to a school on May 9.

In fact, Wilkins (6-5, 285) could push it back - way back.

“I was going to try and do it in May, but I have had more schools come at me so I am going to let it ease back and hopefully wait until next year to commit and make my decision,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins, who took an unofficial visit to Arkansas on Saturday, recently was elevated to a four-star prospect in some recruiting rankings and is now over 20 offers.

“I didn’t really expect all this,” Wilkins said. “I had about three or four offers in January and then after Arkansas offered me and it just blew up from there.”

The visit to Arkansas once again solidified his interest in the Razorbacks.

“They just made me feel like family and let me know how I would be fitting in and how I would have a true home here,” Wilkins said.

He was a part of some 50 prospects that were on campus Saturday and Sunday.

“I really enjoyed my time being up here and seeing what they have planned for us, what they want for us and stuff like that,” Wilkins said. “I had a really good time getting to know the academic side of things as well and touring the facilities.”

Wilkins, one of eight in-state 2019 prospects the Razorbacks have offered so far, got a chance to spend time with Arkansas offensive line coach Dustin Fry.

“We talked about what he has planned for me if I do come up here and being able to build a wall around the athletes and rally everybody else on board,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins - a cousin of former Arkansas All-American offensive lineman Shawn Andrews - made it clear it has been a life-long dream to get an Arkansas offer and be a Razorback, but wants to be careful about his recruiting process.

“It is still a dream, but I am trying to be smart about it and make sure Arkansas is the best fit for me,” Wilkins said. “Sometimes you might have to do what is best for your future and that is what I am trying to figure out. Is it or not?”

“Right now they (the Razorbacks) are in my top two. I feel at home here.”

Wilkins, who said Oklahoma was the other team in his top two, has a lot of visits planned this spring and summer.

“I still have to make a trip to go to Athens for Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and TCU,” Wilkins said.
