Cronin, Shaddy will travel to LSU, but status unclear

Arkansas pitcher Matt Cronin throws during a game against Auburn on Friday, April 6, 2018, in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas will travel two of its best players to LSU this weekend, but it's unclear whether they will play.

Pitcher Matt Cronin and second baseman Carson Shaddy will be on the Razorbacks' 27-man travel roster, but neither are ready to play as of Wednesday, Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said.

Cronin is ill with mononucleosis-like symptoms and Shaddy has a bruised throwing hand. Neither played in Arkansas' series against Alabama last weekend and Shaddy hasn't played since the first game of a doubleheader against Mississippi State on April 20.

Van Horn said trainers are "pretty sure" Cronin has mono and he has not yet been cleared to pitch.

"They don't feel like it's a super bad case of it," Van Horn said. "He's feeling better, but there is protocol we have to go by."

Van Horn said Shaddy has a "deep bruise" on his hand is about 70 percent back to full health, but "if we played tonight, I wouldn't start him."

Van Horn also announced Wednesday that he will not name a starting pitcher for Sunday until Saturday's game is over. Redshirt sophomore right-hander Isaiah Campbell pitched only 1 1/3 innings in a start against Alabama on Sunday and has a 4.17 ERA in 10 starts. Van Horn said Campbell could be used out of the bullpen at LSU.

Blaine Knight will start Friday and Kacey Murphy will start Saturday.
