FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas first baseman Danielle Gibson had a game for the record books Saturday at Bogle Park.
Gibson, a sophomore, tied the NCAA record with four home runs and recorded 10 RBI in the Razorbacks' 15-3 win over SIU-Edwardsville. Arkansas, ranked No. 12, improved to 11-3 overall.
Gibson hit home runs in the first, second, third and fourth innings. The game ended before she could bat in the fifth because of a run rule.
She is the sixth player in NCAA history to hit four home runs in a game. Gibson's performance included the rare home-run cycle - a solo home run, two-run home run, three-run home run and grand slam.
The historic performance came shortly after Gibson struggled and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in a 3-1 loss to Drake earlier in the day. The Murrietta, Calif., native is batting .392 with 5 home runs and 19 RBI this season.
Gibson hit 12 home runs and had 39 RBI as a freshman last season at Arizona State and was named to the Pac-12's all-conference first team.
Arkansas is scheduled to play IUPUI on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. in the final game of the Razorback Invitational.
