Arkansas 10, Memphis 3 - Final

Nick Jones hit a long home run off Liam Henry with one out in the ninth, but Henry responded with a groundout and a flyout to end the game.

The Razorbacks out-hit the Tigers 8-6 and Memphis committed three errors. Arkansas stranded nine.

The story of this game was Arkansas' seven-run fifth inning that turned a close game into a blowout. The Razorbacks scored all seven runs with two outs, continuing a good streak of two-out hitting.

Arkansas also was aggressive on the bases again, a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen-base attempts. The Razorbacks are 13-for-13 in the past three games.

Next up for Arkansas is Stony Brook on Friday.

We'll have more from this game at WholeHogSports.com soon.

Arkansas 10, Memphis 2 - End 8th Inning

Freshman left-hander Liam Henry will make his first appearance in the ninth inning, looking to close out the win.

Arkansas 10, Memphis 2 - End 7th Inning

The Razorbacks are adding to their lead. Jack Kenley walked and advanced to third on a pickoff attempt that was wide of the first baseman's glove. He scored on Jacob Nesbit's sacrifice fly.

Casey Martin reached on a hit by pitch and scored on Trevor Ezell's RBI single. The Razorbacks stranded two.

Arkansas 8, Memphis 2 - Middle 7th Inning

Jacob Burton worked around a one-out double by Jason Santana and a walk in the next at-bat. This is Burton's first appearance since he gave up a three-run home run late in the season opener against Eastern Illinois two weeks ago.

Memphis has had chances today, but the Tigers have stranded five.

Arkansas 8, Memphis 2 - Middle 6th Inning

Caden Monke worked around a hit batter, but he struck out the side in his first collegiate outing. Monke is a freshman left hander from Illinois.

Arkansas pitching has retired nine of the past 10 batters since Memphis singled to lead off the fourth inning.

Arkansas 8, Memphis 2 - Bottom 5th Inning

The Razorbacks have scored seven runs in this inning, all with two outs. Heston Kjerstad busted out of his slump, at least temporarily, with a two-run single up the middle that scored Christian Franklin and Casey Martin.

Memphis is going to its third pitcher of the inning.

Arkansas 6, Memphis 2 - Bottom 5th Inning

The Razorbacks have finally broken through against Danny Denz.

Jack Kenley's two-run single with two outs put Arkansas ahead 3-2. After a throwing error by the Memphis catcher brought another run home, Christian Franklin beat out an infield single that scored Kenley from third base and Jacob Nesbit from second.

Arkansas is running at will against Memphis, much like it did at Southern Cal. The Razorbacks have successfully swiped all five bags today, including two this inning.

Memphis 2, Arkansas 1 - End 4th Inning

Memphis pitcher Danny Denz is pitching really well. He hasn't allowed a hit since the first inning and has worked around a base runner the past three innings, including a two-out walk to Christian Franklin the fourth.

Casey Martin ended the inning with a long fly ball to center field. The Razorbacks have stranded six runners today.

Memphis 2, Arkansas 1 - End 3rd Inning

The Razorbacks have stranded five base runners today, including Trevor Ezell at second base in the bottom of the third. Ezell reached on an error to lead off the inning and stole second base with two outs, but the inning ended when Zack Plunkett grounded out.

Arkansas starter Patrick Wicklander's day is over and Zebulon Vermillion is replacing him on the mound. Wicklander's final line: 3 innings, 2 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts. He is in line for his second loss.

Memphis 2, Arkansas 1 - Middle 2nd Inning

Jason Sanatana's towering two-run home run off Patrick Wicklander has given the Tigers the lead. The ball was wind aided and landed beyond the chair-back seats in left field.

Arkansas 1, Memphis 0 - End 1st Inning

Arkansas had the chance for a big inning, but settled instead for only one run on Dominic Fletcher's opposite-way RBI single to score Casey Martin, who reached on a leadoff walk and stole second base.

The Razorbacks had the bases loaded with one out in the inning, but the bottom of the order couldn't come through against Memphis left-hander Danny Denz. Zack Plunkett hit into an infield fly and Jack Kenley grounded out to end the inning.

Memphis had a leadoff walk against Arkansas starter Patrick Wicklander in the top of the first, but Martin started an inning-ending double play to work around the runner.

Pregame

The weather has changed a lot in 24 hours in Fayetteville. This time yesterday the Razorbacks were practicing on this field under sunny skies and with a temperature near 70 degrees.

Today the weather is not nearly as ideal. A cold front has pushed into the area and will cause game-time temperatures to be in the 40s, falling into the 30s after the sun goes down. There also is a layer of fog that might come into play as we get later into the day.

Arkansas is going to throw a number of pitchers today, beginning with freshman left-hander Patrick Wicklander. This might be an audition for Wicklander to make it into the weekend rotation by the time conference play begins.

Expect to see several other Razorbacks throw today, including some freshmen who have not thrown yet this season. Among them are Caden Monke, Liam Henry and Evan Taylor.

Memphis will throw junior left-hander Danny Denz today. Denz started the Tigers' game against Arkansas last season in Memphis and was solid in midweek games a year ago.

Arkansas fans also will get their first look today at Trey Harris as the team's designated hitter. Harris, who is from Little Rock, has battled a couple of injuries this year.
