Arkansas women claim road win at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Malica Monk scored 23 points and hit a jumper with 3.6 seconds left as Arkansas beat No. 20 Tennessee 80-79 on Monday.

The loss was Tennessee's fifth straight, their longest skid in nearly half a century.

Tennessee (12-6, 1-5 SEC) last dropped five straight games in 1970. The Lady Vols host No. 1 Notre Dame on Thursday.

Coming into the game, Arkansas (14-5, 2-2) had lost five straight to the Lady Vols, the last win coming in 2016. The Razorbacks have won two straight and three of their last four games.

Arkansas overcame a 5-0 deficit to take a first-quarter lead as Alexis Tolefree hit 3-of-4 from 3-point range and scored 11 of her 16 points to help the Razorbacks to a 20-15 lead. Bailey Zimmerman added 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in the quarter.

Tolefree cooled in the second quarter, but Arkansas got scoring from five different players to take a 40-31 halftime lead. Monk, Jailyn Mason and Chelsea Dungee combined to hit 6-of-10 shots and Taylah Thomas scored 4 for Arkansas in the quarter including a layup just before the halftime buzzer.

The Lady Vols came out gunning in the third quarter behind Evina Westbrook, who scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the quarter, including 2-of-3 from the 3-point line. Rae Burrell also knocked down a 3-pointer with :06 left in the quarter that pulled Tennessee within 63-59.

Tennessee tied the game at 63-63 with 8:01 left on Zaay Green's bucket, then took a 66-63 lead on Rennia Davis' 3-pointer. The Lady Vols later extended their lead to 70-65, but Arkansas withstood the flurry as Dungee was fouled on a 3-point shot attempt and hit all three free throws to tie the game at 70-70 with 4:02 left.

After Tennessee went up 74-70, Monk and Mason hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Arkansas back the lead at 76-74 with 1:20 left.

Arkansas led 78-77 with under 30 seconds left before Westbrook hit two free throws with 10.2 seconds left to give the Lady Vols their last lead at 79-78. Monk responded by racing down the floor and scoring for Arkansas with 3.6 seconds left, and Westbrook missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Dungee scored 19 points for Arkansas. Zaay Green had 17 for Tennessee, and Cheridene Green had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Monk's 23 points were a season-high.

Tennessee guard Meme Jackson was helped to the locker room after getting hurt driving to the basket in the third quarter.

Arkansas forced 16 Tennessee turnovers and committed just eight.

The Razorbacks will return home Thursday at 7 p.m. against Alabama.
