Arkansas women's golf tied for 6th in Arizona

The No. 6 University of Arkansas women’s golf team shot a 3-over 291 on Friday to tie for sixth place after the first round of the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz.

Arkansas was shooting 2 under at the turn but slipped on the second nine of the 6,345-yard par 72 course at The Preserve.

South Florida owned the first-round lead at 6-under 282, and Houston was the only other team below par at 2 under.

No. 17 Texas A&M was tied for third place at 1 over with Kansas State, followed by Missouri (+2), and the Razorbacks were tied with Tennessee.

The trio of senior Ela Anacona, sophomore Reagan Zibilski and freshman Maria Jose Marin all shot even par to lead the Razorbacks and tie for 15th place. All three of those players carded a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Senior Miriam Ayora shot 3-over 75 and was tied for 43rd. Junior Kendal Todd was one stroke back with a 76 and tied for 52nd. Ayora had three birdies, a double bogey and bogey on the last five holes of the front nine.

Arkanas junior Giovanna Fernandez, playing as an individual, carded a 75 and is tied with Ayora.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 15-team field is UNLV in seventh at 4 over, followed by Iowa State (+7) and TCU (+8).

The Razorbacks are paired with Missouri and Kansas State for a 10:30 a.m. Central tee time in the second round Saturday.
