When James McCann was called up to Detroit on Sept. 1, the Tigers were tied with the Kansas City Royals for first place in the American League Central.

They have since taken a three-game lead in the division, with McCann receiving some playing time at catcher.

The former Arkansas catcher got his second start and batted eighth for the Tigers Friday. In Detroit's 10-1 win over the Royals, he collected his first two career hits, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one stolen base.

On Sunday, McCann was inserted into the game with the Tigers clinging a 3-1 lead over the Royals. He went 0-for-1 at the plate, but Detroit hung on for a 3-2 win.

It was his seventh career appearance and his batting average dropped to .182 (2-for-11).
