Allen to remain with Gators

North Little Rock guard KeVaughn Allen

North Little Rock guard KeVaughn Allen's mother has told Charging Wildcats Coach Johnny Rice that her son has decided not to seek a release from Florida and will play for the Gators.

Allen, 6-3, 170 pounds committed to Florida in April of last year and signed with Florida on April 15 over scholarship offers from Arkansas, Memphis, Kansas, Connecticut, Baylor, Mississippi State and others.

Billy Donovan left Florida to become the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 30 and Michael White was named the new Florida coach after leaving Louisiana Tech.

ESPN rates Allen the No. 18 shooting guard and No. 54 overall prospect in the nation. As a junior, he was the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Player of the Year after helping lead the Charging Wildcats to the Class 7A state title while averaging 21.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Allen told Andrew Spivey of GatorCountry.com he never asked for a release from Florida and decided to stick with the Gators today.

He said Coach Michael White is a man of his word and he thinks he can believe him. He also likes how White has used guards in the past.

Allen, who plans to report to Gainesville on June 23, said he understood why Donovan left to become the coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
