Arkansas routs Troy in Verizon Arena

Arkansas 88, Troy 63 - FINAL

Daryl Macon (25) and Anton Beard (11) combined to score 36 points in their return to Little Rock. Daniel Gafford added 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The Razorbacks won comfortably despite Jaylen Barford struggling. Barford made only 2 of 11 field goal attempts and finished with seven points.

Adrio Bailey scored 10 points and Trey Thompson added eight points for Arkansas, part of a 50-16 Arkansas advantage in paint points. Arkansas also out-rebounded Troy 42-35.

Wesley Person led Troy with 25 points and tied Macon with five made 3-pointers. He also was 11 of 13 from the free throw line.

The Trojans did not shoot well overall, however, and finished 31 percent overall and 28 percent from beyond the arc.

The Razorbacks improved to 8-2 and won for the third consecutive game. Arkansas is scheduled to play again Tuesday against Oral Roberts at Bud Walton Arena.

Troy fell to 5-6 overall and lost for the third consecutive game. Arkansas is now 4-1 all-time against the Trojans.

Arkansas 75, Troy 55 - 3:46, 2nd Half

Daryl Macon couldn't have asked for a better homecoming.

The Little Rock native has 25 points - including five made 3-pointers - to lead all scorers. He also has five assists.

The Razorbacks have cooled a little this half, but still have made 30 of 57 field goal attempts.

Arkansas 69, Troy 49 - 7:28, 2nd Half

The announced crowd at Verizon Arena tonight is 16,416. That is the largest for a game in North Little Rock since the 2001-02 season when 17,201 were on-hand for a game against Oklahoma State.

Daryl Macon is up to 19 points to lead all scorers, but it has been the interior game that has stood out. The Razorbacks are outscoring the Trojans 40-10 in the paint.

Arkansas 59, Troy 40 - 11:38, 2nd Half

Adrio Bailey just had a nice stretch for Arkansas. His second dunk of the game brought the crowd to its feet and he also had a jumper and an assist on a C.J. Jones jumper.

Bailey has six points and two rebounds in seven minutes off the bench.

Wesley Person Jr. is up to 15 points for Troy. He has made 4 of 10 attempts from 3-point range and has not taken a shot inside the arc.

Arkansas 51, Troy 30 - 15:23, 2nd Half

Trey Thompson is off to a strong start in the second half with a layup and a dunk. The Razorbacks are on a 6-0 run.

Thompson is up to eight points for the game on 3-for-3 shooting. He has one rebound in nine minutes.

Anton Beard also has a layup this half to push his point total to 11.

Arkansas 45, Troy 25 - Halftime

Arkansas held in-check Troy's great offense through 20 minutes.

The Trojans are shooting only 28 percent (9 of 32), while the Razorbacks shot a blistering 62 percent (18 of 29) in the first half. Both teams made five 3-pointers, but Troy attempted 18.

Daryl Macon has 15 points and Anton Beard has nine points to lead the Razorbacks. Juan Davis Jr. has nine points to lead Troy.

Arkansas has owned the paint with a 26-6 scoring advantage inside and a plus-two rebound margin.

The Razorbacks' run is up to 21-2 over the last 7:31.

Arkansas is shooting the ball outstanding - 16 of 25 overall and 5 of 11 from 3-point range. The Razorbacks have made 4 of 6 free throws, including two from Daryl Macon when Kevin Baker was called for a technical foul.

Macon has 15 points to lead all scorers. Anton Beard, who also is back in his hometown, has seven points on 3-of-3 shooting.

Troy hasn't scored in nearly six minutes.

Another Troy 3-pointer cut the lead to 20-19, but the Razorbacks answered with a 12-2 run that has Arkansas ahead by double digits.

Trey Thompson has four points during the run and C.J. Jones and Adrio Bailey had dunks that electrified the crowd.

Arkansas is shooting 68 percent and has 10 points off five turnovers by Troy.

Both teams came into the game averaging high points per game and it looks this game will be high-scoring, too.

Anton Beard's 3-pointer out of the last timeout pushed the Razorbacks' lead to 15-8, but the Trojans are staying in the thanks to four made 3-pointers. Troy is on a 6-0 run, which caused a timeout by Mike Anderson.

Daryl Macon has 10 points already for the Razorbacks.

The Razorbacks are on a 10-0 run after a strong start by the Trojans.

Daryl Macon has the last eight points on back-to-back 3-pointers and a steal and layup.

Troy scored on its first three possessions, but has gone nearly four minutes without a made shot.

Arkansas and Troy are set to tip-off at 7 p.m. There is no TV or online stream of the game.

Tickets sold out yesterday, so a crowd of more than 16,000 is expected.

The Razorbacks will start the same lineup for the second consecutive game: guards Daryl Macon, Jaylen Barford and Anton Beard, forward Dustin Thomas and center Daniel Gafford.

Troy is without forward Jordan Varnado, who has a stress fracture in his foot. Varnado is averaging 19 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
