LR Christian's Layden Blocker lands Arkansas offer

Little Rock Christian sophomore point guard Layden Blocker received his third high-major college scholarship offer in 24 hours from Arkansas on Thursday.

Blocker, 6-2, 160 pounds, picked up scholarship offers from Auburn and St. John’s on Wednesday to go along with offers from TCU, Southern Miss, Tulane, Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas. He has much respect for Arkansas coach Eric Musselman.

“I like that he’s real energetic,” Blocker said. “He gets along with his team well when I see all the videos. He’s the kind of coach you can get along with and he highlights your strengths and he improves your weaknesses.”

Getting the offers from the Razorbacks, St. John’s and Auburn is humbling.

“It shows me that I’m working hard, but I still have to stay in the gym,” Blocker said. “It’s a blessing.”

He and fellow Joe Johnson Arkansas Hawks guard Annor Boateng were named to the top 30 at the Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph camp over the weekend in the Dallas area.

Blocker averaged about 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals per game as a freshman for the Warriors and was named Class 5A All-State and All-Conference. Blocker was one of two freshmen named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Underclassman Team.
