FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas catcher Cason Tollett will transfer to Arkansas State, he said Monday in a Twitter post.

Tollett, a second-year freshman from Little Rock, will have four years of eligibility remaining at Arkansas State. He redshirted this season and all college baseball players in 2020 received that year of eligibility back due to the covid-19 disruption.

Tollett played in one game at Arkansas, as a pinch hitter during a February 2020 game against Eastern Illinois. An arm injury forced him to miss three weeks that year and the season was suspended just before he was slated to return.

Tollett entered the NCAA transfer portal following the conclusion of the 2021 regular season. He is playing this summer for the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League, where he is batting .255, has a .710 OPS and opposing base runners have been thrown out in 5 of 8 stolen-base attempts.

As a senior at Little Rock Christian, Tollett batted .450 with 6 home runs and 37 RBI. He played travel baseball for the Arkansas Sticks.

At Arkansas State, Tollett will likely compete for a starting job next season. Catcher Liam Hicks, who led the Red Wolves with a .344 average this season, is a candidate to be drafted.

Tollett was one of five Arkansas players to enter the transfer portal this year, according to D1Baseball. Pitchers Caleb Bolden, Nate Wohlgemuth, Jacob Burton and Blake Adams have not publicly committed to a new program.
