Hannah Camenzind earns third SEC honor

Arkansas starter Hannah Camenzind delivers to the plate Monday, May 1, 2023, during the first inning against Tennessee at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas left-handed pitcher Hannah Camenzind is the SEC freshman of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Camenzind has received the award in three of the last five weeks.

The Valley, Neb., native shut down a strong Tennessee offense during 9 2/3 innings pitched over the final two games of the series, which Arkansas won. The Lady Vols scored one earned run against her Sunday and were shut out in Monday’s rubber match.

She allowed eight hits over the weekend against 43 batters faced. She forced 17 ground outs, 8 fly outs and had 3 strikeouts.

Camenzind (4-2, 2.37 ERA) and Tennessee pitcher Karlyn Pickens are tied with a league-leading three freshman of the week honors.

The Razorbacks have had a freshman win the award five times in 12 weeks. Camenzind, center fielder Reagan Johnson and shortstop Atalyia Rijo have all earned the honor.
