Jonesboro's Elauna Eaton one of state's top young talents

Elauna Eaton

— Arkansas recently got a visit from Jonesboro freshman guard Elauna Eaton, who is regarded as one of the state’s best young players.

Eaton (5-11), a lefty who already has offers from Arkansas, South Carolina and Ole Miss, is ranked as the sixth-best 2020 prospect in the nation by ESPNW.com.

She is the second in-state freshman to get an offer from Arkansas coach Jimmy Dykes. The Razorbacks have also offered Fayetteville guard Sasha Goforth.

“Everything is great at Arkansas and they have some beautiful facilities,” Eaton said. “I really like the direction the program is headed.

“It looks like they want to work and be winners and have some great players there and hopefully some more on the way.”

Eaton, the younger sister of Arkansas State commit Marquis Eaton, is slated to play her first high school game when Jonesboro travels to Neelyville, Mo., on Nov. 22.

“I feel really good about my offensive game, but I can improve on my defense,” Eaton said. “I need to stay down with the ball and be aggressive.”

Eaton will make the jump from Annie Camp Junior High to playing for Jonesboro High this season.

“I need to be more physically and mentally stronger to go up against the older girls,” Eaton said. “They are like already older and will have more experience so I will to get stronger and more physical.”

Eaton says that she patterns her game after recently retired NBA star Kobe Bryant and current Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook.

“I love Kobe’s passion for the game,” Eaton said. “Now that Kobe has retired, Russell Westbrook is next in line for me. He has that same passion.”

Interestingly Eaton says that she doesn’t watch a lot of college and NBA basketball.

“I like to write and share my feelings,” Eaton said.
