Texas prep tight end Frazier impressed with Arkansas visit

Brandon Frazier

— Once in his top eight, Arkansas has now jumped into the top three for McKinney (Texas) North junior tight end Brandon Frazier (6-7, 231).

The Razorbacks moved closer to landing his signature on Saturday after he concluded his official visit to Fayetteville.

"They're definitely in my top three,” Frazier said. “It's probably Arkansas, Baylor and (Texas) Tech. I had a great visit this weekend, but I'm still going to visit those other two schools before I make a decision. We'll go from there.”

Frazier, who had 37 catches for 513 yards and five touchdowns last season, knows Crockett, Texas, tight end Allen Horace (6-4, 233), a fellow three-star prospect who committed to the Razorbacks last month.

Arkansas is losing several tight ends to graduation after this upcoming season and is trying to land a couple to reload at the position with two tight ends in the 2020 recruiting class.

That was something Arkansas coach Chad Morris and tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. tried to get across to Frazier.

“We sat down with Coach Lunney and Coach Morris yesterday at breakfast (and) just looked at the depth chart,” Frazier said. “He said I control my own destiny of playing early. Just getting ready physically and putting on that weight when I get in. Be ready to play.

“…I have talked to him (Horace) and seen him around some other campuses. A really good athlete. Yeah, I could definitely see us playing together - 12 personnel.”

Frazier was hosted by Arkansas players Jack Lindsey, Bumper Pool and Grant Morgan.

"It was good,” Frazier said. “I got to spend a lot of time with them. They're all really good guys."

Frazier will visit Baylor in a couple of weeks and then Texas Tech a little after that. Baylor has an edge in terms of the product on the field right now, per Frazier, but Morris stressed that could change quickly.

“The only thing that separates Baylor from Arkansas is them just winning right now,” Frazier said. “(Baylor head) Coach (Matt) Rhule and (tight ends) coach (Jeff) Nixon over there, I really like those guys. Really good guys and they win.

“That's one thing I told Coach Morris about here and he said, 'You've just got to trust the process,' because they flip all the schools they go to like SMU and Clemson. They turned it around and they will turn this one around. It's just trusting they will do that."

He has a list of things he is looking for in a college.

"Playing early, getting a degree paid for, having good, helpful coaches getting me to where I want to go, and just develop as a better man,” Frazier said.

He noticed a bond among the players and coaches at Arkansas.

"Just the connectedness of all the players and coaches and the vibe they brought in,” Frazier said. “It's really good and really cool to see. They're definitely flipping the program back to winning games and stuff. That's going to be fun to watch."
