FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas running back Josh Oglesby has committed to Stephen F. Austin, according to a post to his Twitter account.

Oglesby, a 5-8 tailback from Katy, Texas, entered the NCAA transfer portal in November ahead of the Razorbacks’ road game against Alabama.

A member of Arkansas’ track team prior to joining the football team in 2020, Oglesby suffered a foot injury in preseason practice and did not play last season. He finished the 2021 season with 19 rushing yards on 4 carries against then-No. 15 Texas and Georgia Southern.

Asked about Oglesby’s intent to transfer from the program on Nov. 17, Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman said the running back’s situation is “exactly what the portal is for.”

“I have a high respect for him,” Pittman said. “And it was, 'Coach, I know my situation on the depth chart. I’ve got a lot of speed. I think I can go help somebody and play. I know where I’m at here. What do you think?' I was all for it and all for him being able to do that.

“A lot of times (when a player enters the portal) it doesn’t mean the head coach is mad. A lot of times it can be mutual, and it can be to help this guy go play the game. It’s still a fun game. Go play it.”
