— Following a last-second loss at Texas A&M on Sunday, Arkansas dropped two places to No. 18 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll.

The Razorbacks (14-7, 4-6 SEC) lost 69-67 to the Aggies when Jordan Nixon hit a game-winning shot with eight seconds remaining. It was Nixon’s second game winner to beat Arkansas this season, and the third game the Razorbacks lost on a shot in the final 10 seconds.

Texas A&M (18-1, 9-1) moved up one spot to No. 6 in this week’s poll.

The Razorbacks were 1-1 last week. They came back to defeat Missouri 85-80 on Thursday after giving up an 18-point lead in the third quarter.

Arkansas is scheduled to host Mississippi State on Thursday at Bud Walton Arena. The Bulldogs (8-5, 3-4) fell out of the AP poll following a week in which they did not play a game due to covid-19 quarantines within Tennessee’s program.

Mississippi State had been ranked in 125 consecutive polls dating to 2014. The Bulldogs are in their first season under coach Nikki McCray-Penson, who replaced Vic Schaefer, a former Arkansas assistant, after he was hired at Texas last year.

Arkansas and Texas A&M are among six SEC teams ranked this week, led by South Carolina which overtook the top spot in the poll. Tennessee (16), Kentucky (20) and Georgia (24) are also ranked.

The Razorbacks are 2-7 against teams ranked in this week’s poll. Connecticut, which lost at Arkansas on Jan. 28, moved up to No. 2 this week.
