Layne Taylor, a freshman at Farmington, was named the All-NWADG Division II Boys Player of the Year after leading the Cardinals to the 4A-1 Conference championship. Taylor averaged 21 points per game for the Cardinals and was named to the Class 4A all-state team.

On Wednesdays, we feature an in-state prospect who could be flying under the radar of college coaches. This week's UTR prospect Farmington’s Layne Taylor.

Coach Johnny Taylor:

“He is great at setting up players and reading where help comes from. His basketball IQ (stands out) when he has an advantage or when a teammate has an advantage. He is able to give me insight to how the defense is working and how we can manipulate it to our advantage. His ability to be challenged and coached hard and always have a great demeanor is what I am most proud of.”

Coaching his son:

“He’s very coachable and he’s a good teammate, and that makes it easy. Other than I probably have unrealistic expectations of what I think he should do.”
