FAYETTEVILLE — The start of Arkansas’ baseball series finale against Vanderbilt was delayed Sunday due thunderstorms near Baum-Walker Stadium.
The seven-inning game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
It was scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m., but was delayed about 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. According to SEC rules, games cannot begin until lightning is outside an 8-mile radius for at least 30 minutes.
At 1:40 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas of Washington County that included Fayetteville.
At 1:57 p.m., groundskeepers pulled the tarp off the infield and began to prepare for play, but lightning remained visible for another 30 minutes.
The fourth-ranked Razorbacks defeated the No. 21 Commodores 11-6 earlier Sunday in the resumption of a game that was postponed Saturday night due to weather. The series is tied at one game apiece.
There is no curfew Sunday, which is a travel day for the Commodores. Vanderbilt chartered a flight to Arkansas.
More storms are in the forecast later Sunday.
