FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ football team held practice No. 12 of the spring on the fields outside Walker Pavilion on Tuesday.
The Razorbacks worked out in shoulder pads and helmets. Conditions were perfect: sunny with the temperature in the mid-70s.
Here are some notes and observations from the viewing window.
• Wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa continued to impress with his route running and hands. On the second play of the team segment, KJ Jefferson threw a crossing route toward the sideline to TeSlaa. The pass appeared to be headed out of bounds, but TeSlaa reeled it in with one hand was able to get both feet in.
He quickly secured the ball with his other hand to ensure possession. It was one of two catches he made during the first unit’s eight plays in the session.
TeSlaa also made an impressive basket catch in the corner of the end zone on a low throw during a 2-on-2 drill.
• Jefferson went 5 of 7 passing in the team segment and was moving around well in the pocket. Along with completions to TeSlaa, he completed checkdowns to tailback Raheim Sanders and receiver Bryce Stephens.
On his final play, Jefferson moved around in the pocket and threw an off-balance pass deep to receiver Andrew Armstrong, who made the grab.
• In a punting segment of a special teams period, the three players who took turns returning punts were defensive back Jaylon Braxton, receiver Isaiah Sategna and Stephens.
• During the period when receivers and defensive backs went 2-on-2 in the red zone, quarterback Jacolby Criswell threw a corner fade to a well-defended Sam Mbake, who toe-tapped in the back of the end zone and made the catch. It was a nice display of footwork.
Other standout plays in the drill included a Malachi Singleton touchdown pass to Armstrong and a nice ball from Jefferson to walk-on receiver Marlon Crockett for what looked like a score. Cornerback Dwight McGlothern also broke up a pass in the end zone.
• Former Razorbacks offensive tackle and Pea Ridge High School head football coach Brey Cook was at practice.
