FAYETTEVILLE — Senior outfielder Jared Wegner left Arkansas' 21-5 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday after injuring his thumb during the first inning.

The injury came as he slid into third base after an RBI single by Jace Bohrofen. After drawing a walk, Wegner moved to second on the hit and advanced to third after the UALR catcher Jake Wright bobbled a throw home from left field.

Wegner remained in the game and scored on a single by Caleb Cali during the next at-bat. The Razorbacks batted around during a nine-run first inning and Wegner was pinch-hit for by Mason Neville with the bases loaded later in the inning.

Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said he hoped Wegner's thumb would be OK. Van Horn said the Razorbacks will be careful in handling the injury, but did not rule out a quick return to the lineup.

"You never know," Van Horn said of Wegner playing Wednesday when the Razorbacks conclude their two-game series against UALR. "That kid is tough, so we'll see."

The Creighton transfer leads the team with 12 home runs and 44 RBI, and was named a mid-season All-American last week by D1Baseball.
