University of Arkansas women’s golfer Maria Jose’ Marin was named SEC freshman golfer of the week on Wednesday following the Razorbacks’ title at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic.

Marin, from Cali, Colombia, bounced back from an opening-round 77 to finish at 1-under 215 at the 15-team event in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Marin, who is No. 1 in the Spikemark rankings, has finished under par in all four of her events as a collegian, starting last fall.

Marin has won SEC freshman honors three times in the four weeks it has been recognized this season, tying former Razorback Stacy Lewis for the most in a single season in school history.

Marin leads the Razorbacks with a 69.61 scoring average with 9 rounds at or below par and 5 rounds in the 60s. Marin, who is No. 13 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, has received a second invitation to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur as one of 72 invitees in the world.

The No. 3 Razorbacks, who came from behind to beat No. 11 LSU by a stroke in Puerto Rico, will return to action at the Moon Golf Invitational at Suntree Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla., on Feb. 18-20.
