FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas men’s basketball guard Layden Blocker has entered the NCAA transfer portal. The freshman from Little Rock has three years of eligibility remaining.
Blocker had an inconsistent role throughout the season. He appeared in 27 games and started five but did not play in the final five contests of the season. He averaged 3.7 points and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 40% from the field.
Blocker made his name known for being a strong defensive presence.
"It was an honor to come home, represent the state of Arkansas and the Razorback program," Blocker wrote on social media. "After much discussion and consideration, I've decided to enter the transfer portal."
He was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2023 who committed to the Razorbacks over Auburn, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and several other power-conference programs. He attended the prestigious Sunrise Christian Academy and helped lead the prep school to the national semifinals.
Blocker gained plaudits for his defensive work rate and his offensive upside. He has a high-arcing shot and scored a career-high 14 points against Florida in January and played a career-high 29 minutes against Missouri in January.
He had 27 assists in 27 games played.
Blocker is the fifth Arkansas player to enter the portal after Joseph Pinion, Denijay Harris, Keyon Menifield and Davonte 'Devo' Davis.
Arkansas now has seven scholarship spots to fill in the portal.
As things stand, Khalif Battle, Tramon Mark, Trevon Brazile and Baye Fall are the only scholarship returners remaining on the roster. None of those four players have said anything publicly about their future plans.
